Tickets on sale now for event with award-winning Inuk artist and activist
(Calgary, AB — June 26, 2024) National Music Centre (NMC) is excited to announce award-winning Inuk artist and activist Elisapie will perform live at Studio Bell on September 30. The show is part of a series of special events planned for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Known for bringing awareness to the culture, language, and realities of the Northern Arctic Inuit through her music, Elisapie's unconditional attachment to her territory and her language, Inuktitut, remains at the core of her creative journey. Born and raised in Salluit, a small village in Nunavik which is only accessible by plane, Elisapie is an emblematic Canadian Inuk singer-songwriter.
Her latest album, Inuktitut, which features 10 covers of classic rock and pop songs from the 1960s to the ‘90s translated into Inuktitut, earned her a 2024 JUNO Award win, and a spot on the 2024 Polaris Music Prize longlist. Elisapie has also previously been featured in NMC’s revolving Speak Up! exhibition, which honours Indigenous trailblazers from across Canada whose voices are being used to create positive social and political change.
"Elisapie is an artistic force whose work is deeply connected to her Inuit culture,” said Stephanie Hutchinson, NMC’s Director of Programs. “Her performance at Studio Bell will be a major highlight of our National Day for Truth and Reconciliation events, offering our visitors an opportunity for reflection, learning, and a deeper appreciation of Indigenous cultures.”
NMC Presents: Elisapie happens at Studio Bell on September 30 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $55 and 15% off for NMC Members at studiobell.ca/whats-on. To become an NMC Member, visit studiobell.ca/become-a-member and save on NMC events and exhibitions.
