NMC Presents: CIBC Summer Series at the King Eddy — Kue Varo and The Only Hopes with Dial Up

Join genre-fluid alternative act Kue Varo and The Only Hopes and improvisational art-punk meets no-wave group Dial Up at the legendary King Eddy to wrap up the National Music Centre's CIBC Summer Series on September 6.

About Kue Varo and The Only Hopes:

Smoky vocals curl seductively out of the guitar-forward, ethereal, psychedelia that is Kue Varo and the Only Hopes. From a bubbling cauldron are extracted a potion comprised of equal parts cowboy and witchcraft, hints of mystics and heirlooms. Be careful: it’s beautifully sinister and inescapably tempting. Catchy melody and lucent lyric have conspired to light your imagination on fire. Another sip and the hooks sink in deeper. A frighteningly precise band leans into the tension, tightening the nuts and bolts holding together these dreams of songs. As Varo’s vocals spiral endlessly upwards into the dark night sky, luminescent tracers trail behind, filling the air with light and wonder. Nothing can stop Kue Varo and the Only Hopes now.

About Dial Up:

Dial Up is a prank call that's coming from inside the blender. Improvisational art punk meets no-wave in a 5-piece exquisite corpse featuring fast and furious drums, scratchy egg-punk guitar, wandering, funky bass lines, and a healthy helping of synthesizers, pedals, and electronic treats. Powered by collaborative play and a wide range of influences, Dial Up’s music is a bit like cooking a leftover surprise - it’s fast, intuitive, it has a lot of weird ingredients, but it feels surprisingly great going down.
