Behind the Cut: Ziggy Stardust

Join songwriter, musician, and teacher Kenna Burima and NMC’s Studio and Electronics Engineer Jason Tawkin for an in-depth exploration of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, diving into the groundbreaking music technology that shaped David Bowie's iconic album.

Discover surprising connections to the National Music Centre’s collection, including a rare demonstration of the legendary ARP 2500 synthesizer, an instrument that contributed to the album’s cosmic sound.

Kenna will perform selections from Ziggy Stardust, while Jason unpacks the innovations in multi-track recording that made the album a sonic masterpiece. Witness a unique recreation of the recording process and experience firsthand how technology transformed music history.

NMC is thrilled to present this program in partnership with Arts Commons. We encourage participants to complement their visit by attending the Classic Albums Live performance of this album at Jack Singer Concert Hall on April 3.
