NMC AMPLIFIER TO FEATURE THE COUNTRY'S GREATEST CREATIVE MINDS AND CULTURAL LEADERS
(June 3, 2022— Calgary, AB) The National Music Centre (NMC) is unveiling NMC Amplifier, an interview-style podcast that features some of the country’s greatest creative minds discussing how music shapes culture, wellbeing, and social change. The podcast launches on June 7 at amplify.nmc.ca and all your favourite streaming platforms.
Hosted by Andrew Mosker, President and CEO of the National Music Centre, NMC Amplifier seeks to move the needle forward on issues in music through shared ideas. Touching on topics such as music’s capacity to heal, break cross-cultural boundaries, and the cultural industry’s potential post-pandemic, guests include thinkers, artists, and leaders across the music, arts, and culture sectors. Among them are musician Dan Mangan, CEO of Native Communications Incorporated (NCI-FM) David McLeod, multi-award-winning Quebec singer-songwriter Louis-Jean Cormier, and music therapist and author Jennifer Buchanan.
“I’ve been eager to catch up with friends and colleagues across the Canadian cultural sector to reveal the importance of music from different points of view,” said Andrew Mosker, President and CEO, NMC. “Through this hour-long interview format, I hope to shed light on the issues that matter to the community, and spark or continue some important conversations.”

Below is a summary of the first four episodes:
Episode 1: “Dan Mangan on Creating the ‘Airbnb for Gigs’”, release date June 7
Dan Mangan is a two-time JUNO Award winning and two-time Polaris Music Prize nominated musician and songwriter. In 2017, he co-founded Side Door, a community marketplace platform matching performers with spaces to create shows anywhere, including interactive ticketed online shows. In the premiere episode of NMC Amplifier, he discusses the start-up and how it is helping artists find alternative venue spaces and democratizing concert bookings in the process.
Episode 2: “David McLeod on Sharing Culture Through Songs”, release date June 21
David McLeod (Ojibway/Métis) is the General Manager of Native Communications Incorporated (NCI) and the Co-Chair of NMC's Indigenous Advisory Committee. In episode 3 of NMC Amplifier, he discusses the work being done through the committee, as well as 25 years of collecting Indigenous music, the resilience of Indigenous culture, and learning stories through songs.
Episode 3: “Louis-Jean Cormier on Being Francophone in Canada”, release date July 5
Multi-award-winning Quebec singer-songwriter Louis-Jean discusses the nuances of being a Francophone artist in Canada, the value of National Music Centre, how his songwriting was inspired by the passing of his father, and his former band, Karkwa.
Episode 4: “Jennifer Buchanan on Using Music to Heal”, release date July 19
Renowned music therapist and author Jennifer Buchanan discusses how she discovered the practice of music therapy, its power to heal, and her books Wellness Incorporated: The Health Entrepreneur's Handbook, and Wellness, Wellplayed: The Power of a Playlist.
